Professional Summary of Jenise Ervin
A Reflection on a 35-Year Nursing Career
Introduction
My name is Jenise Ervin . And I'm a retired nurse.
Career Overview
I worked in nursing for 35 years. I became a nurse because I really had a drive and a passion for helping people, for caring about people.
Professional Experience
For many years, my world was centered around caring for others, especially mothers and babies. I began my journey in Pediatrics and Maternal Child Health, serving families in the city of Chicago. I worked as a case manager for high-risk infants and pregnant women, doing newborn screenings, developmental screenings, and guiding mothers through breastfeeding and healthy bonding. I absolutely loved helping families during the most delicate and important moments of life.
But my calling continued to evolve.
I returned to school and became a Family Nurse Practitioner. I served at the University of Chicago, Planned Parenthood, and a Family Planning Clinic, giving care, support, education, and hope to families every single day.
Life then shifted again when my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. I moved closer to home to be present and available. There, I became the Director of Public Health in my town. I supervised nurses, oversaw an immunization and school physical clinic, supported home health teams, coordinated the town’s farmers market, worked with seniors, and even ensured food safety for our community. I got the privilege to touch lives in my own neighborhood and I truly loved it.
When I finally retired, I thought I was closing a chapter but God had another chapter waiting.
In retirement, I discovered a deep peace in plants and growing things. And I rediscovered a gift I learned as a young girl. That's crocheting.
What started as a simple hobby turned into a passion. I began making purses, and my friends and family became amazed at the beauty, the details, the creativity, and the love poured into each piece.
Slowly, it became more than a hobby, it became a business and today every purse I make is still crafted by hand, with the same patience I gave families in healthcare, the same care I gave my community, and the same love I gave to my mother.
This is why the business is called
